Does the Accumulating Human Capital Determine the Decision to Work as Self-employed? Evidence from Cameroon

This paper analyzes the effects of accumulating human capital proxied with educational level on decision to work as self-employed in Cameroon. The methodological approach mobilizes discrete-choice models data drawn from second Employment and Informal Sector Survey carried out by National Institute Statistics. By releasing hypothesis uniqueness labor market assuming that decisions wage earned are occupational choices, empirical findings reveal willingness become declines increase capital. main result suggests becoming Cameroon is not a return accumulation but default option which probably derived poor employment opportunities prevalence informal sector. also suggesting opportunity motivation less common among individuals higher education, another explanation for this may be lack formal entrepreneurial culture well training programs targeting skills development.
